The Turning Point: What Medical School Didn’t Teach Me About Health

Have you ever felt strong, happy, and healthy—only to suddenly feel like it’s all slipping away?
One moment you're full of energy, and the next, you're dealing with stress, sadness, and constant stomach pain. You wonder, “Why is this happening?”
Maybe you’re feeling that way now. Or maybe you’ve watched someone close to you struggle with it.
My name is Dr. Giomarell (Gio), and I know exactly how that feels—because I’ve lived it.

While in medical school, far from my home and support system, I went through one of the most physically and emotionally challenging seasons of my life. The stress and anxiety didn’t just affect my mood—it showed up in my body. I started experiencing severe stomach pain every day—when I woke up, when I studied, and even at night, making it almost impossible to sleep.
Eventually, I saw a gastroenterologist, who diagnosed me with chronic gastritis after several tests. “Chronic” meant this inflammation had been building up over a long time. My nutrition—and my stress—had finally taken their toll.
My doctor recommended a very strict diet of only boiled root vegetables. It helped a bit, but I knew it wasn’t sustainable long-term. And here’s the surprising part: even though I was in med school, I realized I hadn’t really learned how to heal through lifestyle and nutrition.
So I started reading everything I could. I learned about how foods—especially fried items and red meat—can harm the digestive system and are even linked to cancer. I began cutting those out and replacing them with fresh, whole plant-based foods.
At first, I simply wanted my stomach to stop hurting. But what happened was much more profound:
My energy returned. My focus improved. My emotional health stabilized. I began to feel like myself again—stronger, clearer, more vibrant.
Over the years, I transitioned to a mostly plant-based, low-processed diet, and today—more than a decade later—I feel better than ever. This lifestyle is not only sustainable but enjoyable, thanks to the many delicious, healing foods I’ve discovered along the way.

With God’s help, I stayed committed to improving my health. A Bible verse that encouraged me deeply is:
“Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.” — 3 John 2
And now, I want to encourage you:
You can feel healthy, strong, and joyful again. It starts with asking some key questions:
Are there foods that are draining your vitality or clarity?
Is stress affecting your physical health more than you realized?
Think about it. Your health and future are worth fighting for.
You don’t have to do it alone—we’re here to help.
God bless you!
